Fishing Report for the grand strand week of 4/7/24
The Flounder Fishing is picking up! We are going to try to keep these reports going weekly and try to summarize our trips, as well as fellow creators here on the Grand Strand.
**Fishing Report for the Grand Strand**
**Date Range: April 7 - April 13, 2024**
**Average Weather Conditions:** The week started with sunny skies and a gentle breeze, with temperatures averaging between 70 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the week. We did get some heavy rain and winds towards the end of the week.
**Average Water Conditions:** Water temperatures averaged around 65 degrees Fahrenheit with clear to slightly murky water visibility during the week.
**Inshore Fishing:** Anglers reported good catches of speckled trout and red drum along the marsh edges and in tidal creeks throughout the week. Live shrimp and artificial lures like Vudu shrimp, Jelley baits, or z man. Flounder action really picked up this week especially in Cherry Grove. The size is still a little small with only a few keeper size fish mixed in but in the next few weeks the bigger fish should start to push in. The Key this week for flounder was slowing down retrievals and adding some pauses. With water temps still fairly low they are not as aggressive yet. We did not try for sheepshead this week as fiddlers are harder to come by on the north end of the grand strand but still there are reports of people catching them at nearshore reefs and the jetties.
**Surf Fishing:** Surf anglers enjoyed consistent catches of whiting, black drum, and bluefish using fresh shrimp and sand fleas as bait. Fishing early morning or late afternoon provided the best bites, with some larger fish being landed during the evening hours. It seems the piers are starting to pick up some Spanish mackerel as well.
**Overall Outlook:** Fishing along the Grand Strand remained productive throughout the week with a variety of species being caught inshore and from the surf. Get out there and catch some fish!
