Fishing Report For The Grand Strand week of 4/14/24
**Fishing Report for the Grand Strand**
**Date Range: April 14 - April 20, 2024**
**Weather Conditions:** Anglers enjoyed mostly clear skies and mild temperatures during the week of April 14 on the Grand Strand. Daytime temperatures ranged from the mid-60s to low 70s Fahrenheit, providing comfortable conditions for fishing. However, towards the weekend, occasional showers and gusty winds made for slightly challenging angling conditions. Saturday was a beautiful day to be on the water and our pick of the week with temps soaring into the 80s!
**Water Conditions:** Water temperatures remained consistent around 65 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the week, with generally clear to slightly murky water visibility. With Saturday nights storm and Sundays rain, I suspect we will start off the next week with cloudy water.
**Inshore Fishing:** Inshore anglers continued to report good catches of speckled trout and red drum, particularly along marsh edges, tidal creeks, and around oyster beds. Live shrimp remained a popular bait choice, along with artificial lures such as Vudu shrimp. Flounder fishing remained productive, with increased reports of keeper-sized fish being caught. Anglers found success by varying retrieval speeds and incorporating pauses into their presentations. We still are not seeing any Sheepshead in our typical spots but I suspect they will be pushing back inshore in the coming weeks. Bait was more prevalent this week although I was not seeing any finger mullet in Cherry Grove. Our Good Friend Chris from Dead Calm Outdoors reported a good week of fishing in the Murrells Inlet Creeks, reporting that the flounder fishing is on fire down there! Make Sure to check out Chris on YouTube!
**Nearshore Fishing:** Thanks to our friend Captain Bob for providing the nearshore fishing report! Spanish mackerel continued to be a prominent catch for nearshore anglers, with schools being found around artificial structures and nearshore reefs. Trolling with small spoons and casting metal jigs proved effective in enticing these fast-moving fish. Additionally, Captain Bob is catching a good amount of black sea bass around reef sites, providing anglers with opportunities for a rewarding day of fishing and eating! Captain Bob also reported they are still catching some Bonito out there. Check out On The Hook With Captain Bob on the radio every Saturday morning at 8am on Carolina Country 93.9 or if you missed a show catch him on Spotify!
**Surf Fishing:** Surf anglers again enjoyed consistent catches of whiting, smaller black drum, and bluefish using fresh shrimp and sand fleas as bait. Fishing early morning or late afternoon provided the best bites, with some larger fish being landed during the evening hours. The piers are picking up Spanish mackerel as well.
Overall, the fishing scene on the Grand Strand during the week of April 14 offered a variety of opportunities for anglers of all skill levels. With stable water temperatures and a diverse range of species in play, it was an excellent time to explore the bountiful waters off the Grand Strand. Kayln aka The Wild Game Wife Cooked up a fabulous sheepshead dish the week. If you have some sheepshead filets hanging around give this a try!
