FISHING REPORT FOR THE GRAND STRAND WEEK OF MAY 19th
Fishing Report for the Myrtle Beach Area
Date Range: May 19 - May 25, 2024
Weather Conditions: Anglers experienced a good week of weather here on the Grand Strand. The weather was perfect this week, with light winds and few storm systems around. Temperatures stayed consistent, with highs in the 80s. May 24th was our pick of the week; we had a great day on the water fishing the canals down to the inlet and finished up with creeks. Caught a bunch of keeper flounder(only kept 2) and let the rest go for someone else to enjoy.
Water Conditions: Throughout the week, water temperatures remained relatively stable around 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Water clarity was good this week. Anglers should anticipate continued fluctuations in water clarity, especially following periods of precipitation and strong winds.
Inshore Fishing: We only got out a few times this week here in the Grove but the flounder bite is still good with some keeper fish out there. Lots of bait around so should be no issue throwing a cast net for some fresh bait. if your working artificials make sure to say low and slow and to match the hatch!
Match the hatch! Flounder were feeding heavy on shrimp and this one had spit up a few after being caught. Vudu shrimp matches it well!
We did not get the opportunity to try for sheepshead this week but hopefully this upcoming week we will have something to report. This is usually a good week for the inshore sheepshead bite historically speaking. Did see some nice reds and trout come out of the grove though this week. I know our friend Chris with Dead Calm Outdoors has been putting a smackdown on the fish down there in Murrells Inlet. Check out his latest video!
**Nearshore Fishing:** Unfortunately no report for this week for nearshore fishing.
Fish of the week: This week I had the pleasure of taking my dad back out fishing and he was able to get his PB flounder a 19.50” stud. The fish was caught on a 4” Vudu shrimp during the incoming tide. He was working it low and slow along a grass line.
