Fishing Report For The Grand Strand Week of May 5th
Fishing Report for the Myrtle Beach Area
Date Range: May 5 - May 11, 2024
Weather Conditions: Anglers experienced a rough week of weather here on the Grand Strand. The weather was tough this week, with some storm systems blowing through. Temperatures stayed consistent, with highs in the upper 70s or low 80s. May 11th was our pick of the week; we had a great day on the water fishing the canals down to the inlet and finished up with creeks. THE FLOUNDER ARE THICK OUT THERE!
Water Conditions: Throughout the week, water temperatures remained relatively stable around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Water clarity was poor this week due to the heavy rain and strong winds accompanying the storm systems. Anglers should anticipate continued fluctuations in water clarity, especially following periods of precipitation and strong winds.
Inshore Fishing: We started off the week getting out Sunday in Cherry Grove and doing some flounder fishing, as well as setting some crab pots. Kayln made a solo trip during the week and had a good haul of blue crabs out of the pots. The weather for the rest of the week did not favor us getting out and doing any fishing. However, Saturday worked out, and we were able to get some BIG flounder in the kayaks. Finally, we were able to catch some of those 20”+ in the kayak, which helped us out in our Low Country Kayak Anglers Tournament. I stayed with Vudu shrimp, although I did switch up to the 4” size and made sure I had the rattle in the bait due to the muddy waters. Loading up on procure helped as well. There's no trout or redfish report this week for Cherry Grove, although early Saturday morning, there were fish blowing up on bait. Topwater lures early in the morning can be a good choice.
With that brings us to Murrells inlet our good friend Chris with Dead Calm Outdoors had some good days on the water and got into some topwater trout action. Chris has been on fire down there catching trout, reds, and flounder. catch out his latest video below!
**Nearshore Fishing:** Unfortunately no report for this week for nearshore fishing.
Fish of the week: Mason Simpson sent in this video of him catching a huge Jack from the surf this week. What a catch! He was even kind enough to share that he caught in the morning on an incoming tide with a chunk of whiting as bait. If you have a catch to share or brag about, shoot it over to us at coastalcarolinaliving20@gmail.com we would love to feature it in the report!
If you are a guide or content creator that gets offshore and wants to send in a nearshore or offshore report, we are definitely looking for some help in that department, and again, feel free to reach out at coastalcarolinaliving20@gmail.com
