Deliciously Crispy Beer-Battered Fish Recipe: Easy & Flavorful!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) fish fillets

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour ( 1 additional cup separated)

  • 1/4 cup corn starch

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon ole bay

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

  • 1 cup (240ml) beer (choose your favorite, but lighter beers work well)

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish: Cut the fish fillets into manageable pieces, about 2-3 inches long. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, which helps the batter stick better.

  2. Prepare the Batter: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, corn starch, and spices. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the beaten egg and beer. Stir until just combined, but don't overmix. It's okay if there are a few lumps in the batter.

  3. Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (180°C). Make sure there's enough oil to submerge the fish pieces fully.

  4. Coat the Fish: Dip each piece of fish into flounder and then into batter, coating it completely. Allow any excess batter to drip off before carefully placing it into the hot oil. You may want to use tongs to avoid touching the hot oil.

  5. Fry the Fish: Fry the fish in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the batter is golden brown and crispy and the fish is cooked through. You may need to adjust the cooking time depending on the thickness of your fish fillets.

  6. Drain and Serve: Once cooked, transfer the fried fish to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite sides, such as tartar sauce, lemon wedges, coleslaw, or fries.
