Incase you been living under a rock for the last 30 years, technology has really changed the game for fishing. This is where our Fishing Guide comes in, we leverage that technology to help make fishing easy for you. In Short terms that means more fish tacos for you!
The core of our Guide is Google Earth. Google Earth offers powerful features that enhance the utility of the fishing guide. With Google earth you have so much data at the tip of your fingers. This is going to be the base of the guide, this is however not a crash course in using Google earth because wow would that be a long blog post LOL. There are tons of usually features and I just wanted to highlight a few that you should famailarize yourself with them
3D view: Use the 3D view to get a better perspective of underwater terrain or coastal features that could affect fishing conditions.
3D view makes docks, fillings, and structure in general stick out more
Historical imagery: This can also be used to track changes in water levels or shoreline structures over time, providing valuable insights for planning fishing trips. This also lets you flip through satellite imagery to find both high and low tide imagery.
Streetview: this can be amazing for roadside or shore fishing as you can get an idea of parking and what the area looks like before making a trip
Now that we gave a brief overview of how awesome Google Earth is lets dive into the meat and potatoes of what makes this Guide so great. Fish and Salterwater fish in particular like specific environments, you will hear people talk about a dynamite flounder hole. That is because the environmental conditions provide great habitat for those fish meaning they will continue to use that spot. With that being said, we have compiled years and years of data into what is called a KMZ file. KMZ files are a type of compressed Keyhole Markup Language (KML) file that integrates geographical data with Google Earth. They allow users to mark specific locations, annotate details about those spots, and even include images or notes for reference. This makes KMZ files ideal for creating comprehensive fishing guides that can be easily shared and accessed by fellow anglers. The benefits of using a digital fishing guide extend beyond convenience. Unlike traditional methods of sharing fishing information, such as word of mouth or printed maps, KMZ files offer a dynamic and interactive platform. Anglers can explore potential fishing spots virtually before venturing out, increasing their chances of a successful outing.
Pins mark species, as well as shore spots
This KMZ file can be taken with you no matter where you go, easily opened with your phone or laptop meaning you will always have some spots to fish whether you are in a boat or from shore we will have spots for you to fish! We are committed to continuing the development of this tool with new spots and more information.
This spot for example has a history of both Red Fish and Sheepshead
The pin itself holds data like a photo of the catch, the link to the YouTube video of the catch, along with a description of how it was caught. That means you will be able to plan your next trip to that body of water ahead of time and know exactly where the fish are!
It gets even better, when you join the Coastal Carolina Expert membership through the Coastal Carolina Living YouTube channel, that gives you access to our members only posts, lives, chats, giveaways, and meet ups. We hope this will help you become more successful on the water and become a Coastal Carolina Expert!
